2.2.15 Benjamin Stoddert MS 8th Grade Weekly Update

Greetings Family,

Welcome to February, Black History Month. We've got some important items covered in this email. Here are the first announcements of the third quarter:

Ms. Holt- Science
All Gen Ed students are starting astronomy. Math classes and I will continue to incorporate thermodynamics concepts into the lessons.

Each day students are to record the moon's height, a sketch of its shape, the time of observation, and notes about cloud cover. Periodic checks will be conducted for a grade. Please remind students to complete the activity each night during the month of February.

The honors class has already begun their STEM projects: collaboratively designing a Lunar International Space Station. Please remind students to save soda bottles, toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, washed meat trays, and cardboard. The students have been given the instructions for the project. This contains a thorough list of materials.

Mr. Barnes- Math

The algebra class will be doing quadratic equations and the discriminate to determine solutions to that equation that will review systems of equations to see how it ties in to the overall study of algebra.

The mathematics 8 classes will continue to work with functions and they will also be reviewing everything that we have done from the start of the year to ensure that they are ready for the upcoming PARCC examination.

Ms. Shepard-English

Ms. Shepard has returned from military duty. In her absence, students should have completed all of their class novel Of Mice and Men. This week, students will be completing one part of a multi-part project. This is likely the only time students will have to work on their projects. The rest of the time, students will need to complete the project outside of class.

High School prep will take place this week on Wednesday and Thursday. We will be working on applying to summer programs. For those parents who are interested, please take a look at the following links, which offer some excellent and out-of -the-box FREE summer program opportunities.
